Feb 23 - New Look, New Tech Demo

* Update*

As an extra teaser, uploaded a second tech demo; this time focusing on regeneration, or rather the visual aspect of regeneration... enjoy

So Skaro is ingame. With a few minor details to add (creature placement etc), it's almost ready to sign off. Until then, bask in the gloriness glow of 2,0's first Tech demo vid, focusing on the structural landscape of Skaro in brief. Believe me when I say there is so much more to see than is being demo'd below...

I'd also like to identify the brilliant theme composed for the mod by TardisBlue, along with the new official logo, christening both the blog in the header, over at the forums and in the video.

So what's the first thing you're going to do when you land on Skaro? Don't touch the Varga Plants... they sting.

Some criticism with the background image here, on 1920x1080 resolution it cuts off 1/4th at the bottom of the page with blackness.

Also it blends horribly with the text on the page and makes it very hard to read toward the bottom, just some thoughts for you guys maintaining the blog

Kris said...

Hi John, thanks for pointing it out to us. Have amended the page slightly, hopefully this fits the bill better?

John Smith said...

Oh cool, personally I think the new logo looks much better with what you just did to the rest of the page

Tardisblue said...

Yeah I'll make a new one Dem. Initial one worked out better in my head! hehe

Anonymous said...

The new page looks fantastic. I dont mean to be a bother but is there an estimated time of when the next wave will be ready for the public?

Kris said...

No ETA at the moment. Just expect it to arrive at the time you least expect it? (Not a clue)

Anonymous said...

thanks kris.

Kris said...

If you're all very well behaved, I put up a crude Regeneration Tech Demo this evening...

Archer said...

Awesome video. Incredible new logo. Fantastic new tune. I have nothing else to say!

Anonymous said...

Just when I thought I couldn't be any more excited for Wave Two, I saw this. Looks (as 9 would say,) Fantastic! C:

Unknown said...

You know, just saw the second tech demo cause I'm refreshing the page every 5 minutes.

Anonymous said...

Kris can you try get outstretched arms in the regeneration if you can

Kris said...

Unfortunately not. If there's anyone out there with .nif character rigging/animation experience, that would be great. It's also ridiculously impossible to get the player character animated via script.

Anonymous said...

He has already said it won't be done because it's extremly hard to make animations. Besides, if you think about it more then half of the Doctor's regenerations were done without outstretched arms.

Kris said...

I 'did' attempt to get the player 'lying down', but it still had no real benefit to being able to see what was happening...

Unknown said...

That's phenomenal! I'm starting to think Demeggy and Spyduck are actually Rassilon and Omega...

Kris said...

But which is which... one was a facist genius, the other was an insane pioneer... and then there's Rassilon & Omega (badum-cha!)

Tardisblue said...

That's so Craig Ferguson!

Unknown said...

Kris I Believe Chris On Your Team Worked On Outstretched Arms At Least That's What He Told Me

Kris said...

Hi Matt, Chris hasn't mentioned anything to me about it, so I'm not sure on that. What I am sure is that there will be no outstretched arms in the regen.

Anonymous said...

Ooooh. Nice. Getting really excited now. First thing I'm going to do? I have the Niner companion mod. Going to tell Niner to wait and then travel back to Earth. >:)

kik4444 said...

I remember on the forums Chris talked about having degenerative aspects if you regenerate more than 12 times. This proves that you can regenerate infinite times? But what kind of degenerative aspects are we talking about? Also I remember matt giles showing us a completely different regeneration animation. What's up with that?

Kris said...

What a cruel Time Lord you'll be Anon. ;)

Hey kik, this tech demo doesnt demonstrate that at all? You can only regenerate the finite number of times, we just haven't showcased it ;)

As for Matts preview vid a while back, bear in mind the mods constantly evolving.

Anonymous said...

hey good job with the mod i'm looking forward to seeing version 2.1 and 2.2 when is the first wave being released?

Stevielfc said...

that regen reminds me of the 11th doctors regeneration Im sooo excited for this its my birthday 2 weeks today hopefully i get a great birthday present! ;)

kik4444 said...

But I definitely remember Chris saying that you can regenerate past the 12 limit, but you'll have "degenerative" side effects. What does that mean exactly?

Anonymous said...

It's amazing that you can randomize the face and change it without even having to open the race menu. Really amazing scripting.

Kris said...

Cheers. Ah yes Kik, slightly crossed wires. You can beyond your regen limit once only, but you'll end up slightly insane, deranged and generally rancid looking.

RottenApple said...

"You can beyond your regen limit once only, but you'll end up slightly insane, deranged and generally rancid looking."

All completely normal! Don't worry... Okay worry a little bit.

Anonymous said...

Kris will the 2013 console be in the wave

Serathas/MajestyWolf said...

That looks awesome!! theme is awesome too for it i can't wait!!!

Anonymous said...

Skaro looks cool. If we want to simulate classic who, we just need to hang out at quarry junction, since many classic episodes took place on alien planets that were really just gravel quarries. Except once when they filmed in a quarry because the story started in one. Ha!

Anonymous said...

Will the sound of the Sonic Screwdriver be changed? Because at the moment it sounds rather bad in my opinion, preferably if it could sound like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAnfhQJhiXE

Anonymous said...

Will there be a way to trigger regen without having to get hurt? Just in case we are up for a change in stats and looks? Awesome mod!

kik4444 said...

Is there gonna be a way to reset the regen cycle and start from 1 just like 11 did?

echris56 said...

"You can beyond your regen limit once only, but you'll end up slightly insane, deranged and generally rancid looking."

I know it might be a little late in the game to be throwing this out there, but after seeing "The Time of The Doctor", I was thinking that you could suffer degenerative effects from a second regeneration cycle as punishment for bad karma, like The Master. And get a new cycle free of degenerative effects as a reward for good karma, like The Doctor.

kik4444 said...

I agree with you, echris, it would be such a waste to have worked so hard on this system to only be able to use it 12 times

Unknown said...

I don't think it would be a waste, I mean normally you can't cheat death at all and have to load another save. At least with the regen cycle we get essentially 13 lives, so having a limit is fine by me

Tardisblue said...

+ There's the Infinite Stimpak distributor! :D

Anonymous said...

The infinite stimpack distributor's gone now, and the reasoning behind not granting a new regen cycle is that it effectively allows you to be immortal. In that scenario, what's the point in even having regeneration trigger by health? From a gameflow design perspective, it doesn't play in a balanced fashion. You're more inclined to not care about getting your character into scrapes, just charging in headlessly.
No, we are capping regen, for now. See what the future holds.

Demeggy

RottenApple said...

Yeesss, that stimpack distributor was very tempting at times. No more being immortal! Time to play Fallout Who Iron Man mode, WHO'S WITH ME?! 12 Regenerations! 12 lives! 12 days to live!... I suck at Fallout ._.

Unknown said...

One thing I loved about New Vegas was Hardcore mode. I think that is going to work really well with regeneration... ohhhh I can't wait for this! :D

SimSparrow said...

I hope you dont mind, Demeggy...

Anonymous said...

There was a mention of some sort of quest? Perhaps at the end of said quest a player could choose weather or not they want infinite regenerations, with bad karma players getting different buffs and debuffs in regens past the limit. (punishing players for their playstyle is generally a bad idea, just give different bonuses to bad karma players that compliment their playstyle) Player could also be able to refuse this reward in favor of some other one, that way players who don't want to be able to cheat death forever have the option not to.
Those are just my ideas, I've not expectation for these to be implemented as you already have your own.

Anonymous said...

I don't think bad karma should ever be punished, Timelords did all sorts of crazy shit and still got away with it. However the buff/debuff idea is good

kik4444 said...

So then how about the idea of doing a very difficult task for the timelords each time you want a new cycle?

Stevielfc said...

Just a quick question Kris i have a couple of face textures mods installed will it conflict with the regeneration side of the mod?

John Smith said...

How about adding a perk at a very high/max character level that lets you have infinite regenerations?

Unknown said...

Hi all. To clarify; Infinite regenerations will not be an option.

xg42 said...

Infinite regenerations would spoil the game if you want that press ` and then type tgm because it's the same effect

I have an inusual question,is the music from the regeneration trailer going to be in-game,like in a quest or a fwe moments on the history of the mod?

Anonymous said...

So, This may be way to late to suggest his, but, regardless, I'd like to say it anyway.
Would it be possible, in anyway, that when in Drift mode or general flight, you could open the TARDIS doors and see space n'stuff?

An Avid Fan. said...

I think its possible, they would need to adjust console room models, add animations to the doors and behind the door a mesh with a space texture or animation, I doubt this late in they would go to the trouble to do that but yeah its possible.

Unknown said...

Hi anon, funny you say that. I did actually consider that yesterday during a playtest.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for replying :D
It would be really cool to have that But from what I've seen, the mod is already the best I've ever seen :)
Also, will Gallifrey be a planet to visit or is that classified information?

Ben aka The Anon

Unknown said...

Gallifrey was lost... wasn't it...?

SimSparrow said...

Gallifrey STANDS! O_O

Anonymous said...

There's always Pre-War Gallifrey? Perhaps that could be a place you could go to learn more about Piloting and the Temporal Engineering and increase your XP at both skills?

Ben

Anonymous said...

Gallifrey falls no more!
Does a quest involve gallifrey being removed from our universe and placed in the alternate or is that classified?

Unknown said...

I can't wait!
It's so gorgeous!

Anonymous said...

Ben,
With the idea of pre-50th special in mind, the whole planet is timelocked, nothing can get out with the exception of what is already there (like the Doctor for instance) so it would technically be impossible for the Doctor to go there. After the 50th, it may be possible but you'd have to find gallifrey first,SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS it's still in another dimension.

Also, Demeggy, is it possible that we could choose not to regenerate like the master did at the end of 10's season 3? Maybe just holding block while regenerating or something could stop the scripts

Anonymous said...

Regen has 3 modes; Regen now, Hold off regen for 3 minutes, or Don't regen. There's an additional 4th option that only appears if you happen to be carrying a Biomatching Receptacle on you

Demeggy

Unknown said...

Been busy with my dissertation but just check everything out!

and wow it looks amazing, the amount of work and detail and everything looks astounding and brilliant, this has been well worth the wait, loving the theme TardisBlue, and the work of your costumes i've seen on the forum looks so epic! :)

Dan

Unknown said...

"...a Biometching Receptacle"
Odin's beard, is there anything from Dr Who lore you haven't included? :O

Anonymous said...

:) I'm sure there's a lot we've missed, but between growing Demeter Seeds and Janis Thorns, wielding the Baseball Bat of Omega and lobbing cans of unstable nitro-9 around the place, you'll have your hands full ;)

That's what I call whovian!
I'm a "Fallout Whovian"
Seriously, you guys deserve many medals.

RottenApple said...

I'm not sure if I suggested this before, but I would love to be able to set custom locations. I think it would add another level to the tardis. Because then the player can spawn the tardis somewhere with the sonic screwdriver. And save it in the Tardis data banks. So he/she could set the location in some of the DLC worlds, or in a specific place in a house, on top of a house... Would this feature be at all possible Demeggy? And more importantly, do you think you could add it? xD

-RottenApple

kik4444 said...

I fully agree with the above suggestion. I think that Demeggy has already clarified that you're gonna ba able to save custom locations in Wave 2, but I'm not too sure.

Anonymous said...

It's feasible, but in all honesty, was forgotten about. Potential inclusion with 2.5, don't expect to see it in 2.0 am afraid. The Sonic still carries its recall mode though, and you've got a Vortex Manipulator to play with (again, will eventually have storable locations)

Demeggy

Anonymous said...

will there be any temporal negative effects of recently regenerating?

Anonymous said...

Huh... Will it be possible to waste 10 regenerations in 10 minutes? It's just that i like playing my game hard. Like really hard...

TheSpectre said...

I do believe that if you regenerate you really are immortal until your regeneration cycle is over, it wouldn't really wouldn't be possible to waste 10 regenerations in 10 minutes.

Unknown said...

During your regen cycle, as indicated by theSpectre, you're more or less invincible for 24 hours. There are some awful debilitating side effects though...

fatherparadox said...

Just wondering, but would some old exterior textures work with the new release? I'm really loving the Valeyard exterior, and I've made a few of my own edits as well.

Anonymous said...

Hi Paradox, afraid not. We've added new Police Box' damage effects and landing/takeoff anims to the /nif's. Please be aware for a bugless experience, EVERYTHING from 1.0x must be replaced with 2.0's content. I'll be putting a blog up next week regarding this.

Demeggy

SimSparrow said...

Will the exterior change based in the desktop theme you choose?

Anonymous said...

When you open the door, the interior texture represents whichever desktop theme you have selected, but the actual Police Box is the standard current model.

Unknown said...

How will the five doctors console work out when you want to exit the tardis

Archer said...

Will Matt be doing one of his helpful videos on how to install the mod? I found that invaluable last time! :)

Unknown said...

You very cheeky that video was a sound test

Anonymous said...

...not sure I follow what you're saying there Matt/OncomingStorm12?

Demeggy

Unknown said...

I mean that way the five doctors console is on that show when u open the doors and walk out or do u have to click E To Leave the tardis

Unknown said...

I imagine you will have to click E or whatever to leave anyway, since you do to go to another cell in new vegas... Do you mean will we just ooen the doors or will they open via a switch on the console?

Unknown said...

Via Switch on the console but I meant leaving the 5 docs tardis interior when the doors are open do u walk out the doors like the tv show our do we have to hit e to leave

Unknown said...

I'd say based on how New Vegas works you will have to hit 'E'. I mean I could be wrong but that seems to be how New Vegas works, unlike Skyrim for example where you can just walk in/out

Anonymous said...

If we can start to wrap the questions up now guys, there's an FAQs section over at the forums that a whole host of experienced team members will be able to respond to.

To round it off, the Classic Era Desktop exterior doors operate with a lever. Once they're open, you can walk into the 'dark void/dimensional threshold' which triggers your teleportation to the world beyond.

Demeggy

Unknown said...

Thx Dem for explaining

Unknown said...

And also the mod me and xgames were working was killed off were just going to stick to fallout who

Cleveland said...

i know that you stated you'd rather have us ask at the forum but i would like to know if you will make changing the sonic/laser screwdriver function work on a 360 controller. its a bit of a hassle to have to move and unplug my controller just to switch the mode for 5 seconds

An Avid Fan. said...

I believe there are mods that allow the 360 controller and mouse & keyboard to work side by side

Anonymous said...

Oh come on, it was fun! Moral boosting if anything xD

Unknown said...

srly this is a number of comments record.I demand another trailer to celebrate

Unknown said...

Think we can make 200 before the next update? ;D

Unknown said...

Maybe, but it wouldn't be important as most of the comments say nothing
"important"
Like this one, it has nothing to do with the mod, it's jut me saying that we might reach 200 commets before Wave 2, but these comments would be just people saying stuff everyone here agrees "this mod is awesome" or "Gallyfrey stands"

TheSpectre said...

I think if you guys actually add something "Important" an update is likely to happen during the week. But the so called 100 Comments record is more likely to have a hassle on demeggy who appears to be answering majority of the questions.

Unknown said...

Thanks demeggy XD

Unknown said...

I have a question, there will be a method to put more power to the tardis?I deleted the swimming pool and i have a 0% i spend all of it in auxiliary systems

kik4444 said...

Actually, Daniel it might be an interesting idea to be able to craft power components with more capacity.

Unknown said...

I am learning to make mods with tutorials, I do not know much but enough if they finish the mod and have not put them I'll do it and post it in the forums.
If it matters to demeggy

Unknown said...

About powering the TARDIS, I'm sure it will be a lot different for the next release with the new systems and what-not. But I found with the first release I could turn off basically everything except life support and it would fly perfectly fine, glitch or not I don't know but my TARDIS worked fine with most systems turned off

Unknown said...

If you turn off a thing in the primary systems, you can die or you can,t fly.I want your bug.

Unknown said...

I was expecting an update this weekend...i hope they are busy

Is there a possibility for gallifrey to stand once again? alternate dimension or not?
