Companions vs. Time Lords

A quick update on progress,

As of this morning, Spyduck and I agreed to slide Companions back, just to ensure that we get 2.0 out on time.

Companions are currently being designed with a lot in mind to ensure that whoever you pickup, however you pick them up, doesn't just become a mindless follower taking orders from a bland and redundant companion wheel.
At the moment, they're in, and work well; from striding into the Strip, chatting to a gambler, passing the necessary criteria and inviting them aboard the TARDIS. They can be conversed with (Vanilla conversation only), traded with, told to follow, wait or return to the TARDIS, all of the basics, but it's the core fundamentals of what we want to achieve with Companions that brings us to this decision.
We've got some big ambitions for Companions, from developing relationships (plutonic) with your character, to developing special abilities and even learning things as you travel together.

We're hoping, once 2.0 has been released, to bolt Companions on as an additional 'mini-wave' patch update (2.5) between stages.

FWV 2.0 is now in its first proper beta stage, with the core mechanisms in place, from regeneration and its many varying effects, to the Time Lord class System and moods.

Whilst our small team of dedicated testers iron out any major bugs this week, we'll be working on getting the finishing touches added to ensure a truly awesome experience.

The companion interaction intrigues me, don't know whether you are planning on this but I will throw it out there anyway.

After each regeneration their loyalty decreases a bit because they don't trust the new face as much as the last one. Until the newly regenerated courier earns their trust again.

Well that's an idea from me anyway.

Anicarth said...

can this be implemented on custom-made companions?

Perhaps there is a loyalty system already in the game, I think that can be decreased or increased at scripted times.

I'm not a modder so I dont really know what can or cant be done to the extent that they do. It was just an idea.

I just shot my self in shame because I didn't think of this idea. :)

I've got a little suggestion/request for companions. If they can use weapons, can you add scripts to make them draw weapons when the player draws theirs? It's just a little thing I like to see. Not a big deal though. Awesome work so far, though and I can't wait for the rest.

Some cracking ideas there, keep it up

Should look at getting Mishaxhi's Niner as a companion, that would be... interesting. :P

Random question is any one make mass effect Crew

Kris said...

Sorry, I don't understand the question?
This will work on ANY NPC in the game (including custom modded companions in theory), providing you can meet the prerequisites to invite them aboard (a good level of charisma and carrying a spare [craftable] TARDIS key)

So is TARDIS locking going to be implemented in the next wave then, because now as long as they are your companion they can follow you in.

Or do you mean you need to give them a key to use the Return to the TARDIS command?

kris what are we to expect in wave 2

Kris said...

FWV Companions will not be released in Wave 2. That's not to say Vanilla Followers and Modded Follower's can't follow you in.

There's a big distinction between followers and FWV companions.

Cant wait to see what is in store for wave 2

hey I was wondering along with companions will you be offering the new tardis control room them that matt smith has at the current moment?

An Avid Fan. said...

Someone else is making it, I think that they are going to incorporate it into one of the later waves, not sure though. But check out the forum for their progress. http://falloutwho.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lab&action=display&thread=281

So what exactly are the differences between the two?

Anonymous said...

Between the two what? Companions? The article clarifies what is intended for them...

Will the psychic paper be implemented in the mod at all?

An Avid Fan. said...

What could the psychic paper do in the game? Increase persuasion maybe?

Twilson said...

maybe when equipped increase speech to like 65 or something high, but not over the top 100 percent every-time-a-success

I have a suggestion, could you make it so when the tardis is "broken" and the cloister bell is ringing inside, that the cloister bell also rings on the outside of the tardis. Like in the episode "Hide" ****SPOILER*** where the doctor is stuck in the pocket universe and the tardis cloister bell starts ringing and Clara can hear it from the house.

You could also add by making the window panes Red.

This is Devastating.

Anicarth said...

sad to hear as well as thrilling. the mournful goodbye mixed with the curious suspense of what the new doctor will be like... i'm torn

Anonymous said...

there is still another regen after this right?

Anonymous said...

the funny thing is didn't we all read a week ago that he confirmed that he was doing series 8?

Anonymous said...

After he regenerates, I think that he is out of regenerations. Most Time Lords get 13 lives, but 10 regenerated into himself. He used the energy, so it seems like that should count as a regeneration. But who knows, rgiht?

Anonymous said...

it depends weather the "first doctor was an incarnation, for example david tenant might be the 10th doctor but the 9th regeneration

Kris will there be any new lands coming to fallout who?
