July 29

Well after a day of being under the weather, I've had a lot of sleep, and woken up with a slight spring in my step. So to begin with; the first Monster based Quest is complete.

Entitled 'the Blue Death', it's the first of 6 Monster themed quests within the mod that you'll get to play with. A simple, short affair, it's full of action (and big, loud bangs) and serves as a gentle introduction to the very extra-terrestrial nature of Fallout Who Vegas.

Yesterday, I managed to get the remaining recipes for the lab in. You'll now be pleased to hear that you can also grow your very own camellia sinensis (Tealeaves) up in the ships (temporarily mapped) gardens. Don't underestimate the importance of a good brew; it helped the Tenth Doctor through his regeneration cycle (could that be a hint?)...

Also, after a brief discussion with Spyduck this morning, we've come up with a most potentially bodacious mechanism to get the Weeping Angels popping up ingame left right and centre, completely unscripted, without clipping through walls or geometry surfacing.

Rather lardy dar eh?

The TARDIS systems are also going through an overhaul. I'll be reviewing the components and damage system in the coming weeks, whilst a new feature has made the roster in the form of 'Comms'.

Communications

The TARDIS will now receive junkmail and the odd Quest Transmission through an integrated Comms system on the console's scanner. Here you can view any new messages, or archived ones for old times sake.
You'll generally be alerted to the presence of a new message when inside the ship interior through the TARDIS PA System (think a Supermarket announcement, bing bing bong!), or if inside the control room, a continuous, gentle alert signal.

There's also some other ideas rattling around in my melon at the moment, one of which I ran past the testers who seemed otherwise thoroughly keen to try out. Regeneration by gradual ageing anyone?

Regen through aging sounds pretty cool. Easily fixed if people don't like it, since age can be adjusted. This mod sounds amazing. Better than any Dr.Who video game to date.

Unscripted weeping angel mechanics? Does that mean they could randomly appear in the wasteland, actually does that go for any of the monsters or are they all quest only?

Either way nice work and now you've made me want a cup of tea:)

well my only thing i dislike is regen through aging, timelords practiclly dont age, so if it is a game mechanic hopefully it will be toggleable

Tinelords do age... just really, really slowly and it takes a lot longer to look old than humans do, I like the idea. I just imagine it will take a long time in game to regen due to old age :p

Also really really curious about this whole comm system and how it will play out :D

Hey i love the mod but as a fan of it all ill say (and it seems your on the same page as me on this) but don't over complicate it...i mean i love that its not just a pick and flick a lever and your there, that there is substance to it but my only issue with the mod for fallout 3 was that i was constantly worried that the tardis would blow up, now i know you have made the tardis in this mod, shall we say more user friendly, which is great but i think that needs to be applied to everything in the mod so things like regenerating personally i don't want to worry about getting older, or haveing to get tea made when i do regenerate unless there is some sort of bonus or incentive for doing so... which what was cool about temporal engineering and piloting skill there was rewards for getting better at it. Im sure you already know all this but just thought i would mention it. Also if you have weeping angles popping up all over does that mean they could end up in the tardis or other safe places around the world which could get a little annoying... nether the less i love the mod and i am excited to see what you guys are doing :)

Hi there. As you say, the balance is all there. The use of tea as an example is an 'on the go' remedy for the Regeneration Cycle, instead of having to sleep it off.
If you regenerate outside of the TARDIS Zero Room, you're going to suffer the penalty of the Regen Cycle, with its blackouts, double visions and randomised cripples for 24 hours. You can't wait it out either, as the function is disabled, so the only way to get through it is to get some sleep, or to knock up and drink a healthy flask of tea created using a Regenerative Stabiliser in the Lab, some teabags brewn from Tealeaves in the ships gardens, and a Thermosflask found across the wasteland.
The obstacle is there, the approach is upto yourselves as players :)
As for flight and mechanics, we're looking into revamping these so that the penalty system for flight isn't so abrasive.
Thanks for following though, get signed up at the forums if you're not already, we're frequently taking feedback and suggestion over there

What exactly do you mean by regeneration by gradual aging? :O Does that mean you regenerate due to aging? Or that once you die, you're regeneration is simply you getting older? If it's the former I think it's kinda cool, but doesn't go with Doctor who because as we've seen they practically look the same for YEARS, and on television, they have always looked the same age no matter how much time has passed. And if it's the latter... well... No offense but that's plain stupid xD

It was an idea we were toying with. Time Lords age, like people, albeit slowly. This is how the first doctor regenerated. His body was old, and weak, and needed a newer one.

I know you can change the opening screen and loading screen images... But does anyone know if it would be possible to make the opening titles animated? Just wondered if it would be actually possible, since I've already changed the opening music to a version of the Doctor who theme, be cool to have an animated TARDIS flying through the vortex instead of the NCR ranger stood in front of vegas :p
